Candid

The candid happens when the subject is not aware of the photographer taking the photo causing them to act naturally. One of the tricks of the National Geographic photographers is their taking weeks of time getting to know their subject so that they don't notice them when they start to take pictures.

For this assignment do a candid shot out on campus or in our lab. Be sure to not disturb classes and avoid pictures of security people out on campus (some of them don't like their picture taken all the time). A candid CAN also be of an animal, try to get the campus cat if you can.

Picture

Notice how the photographer placed the subject according to the rule of thirds. Perhaps a slight adjustment in the timing of taking the photo would have gotten the ball into the shot. That takes planning of what the shot is going to look like and knowing to start taking the photo before the peak of the action takes place.  The photogpher took this in PE class with instructor permission. They waited around long enough for students to not notice them any longer before they took shots.
