Project approach to Learning

The structure of this class puts the student in the driver seat on what is done each day in class. This is now second part of 4 parts of the class. Now students should be setting their own time, planning what must be done to get their assignments completed on time, selecting materials, looking on the computer and internet for information to increase their knowledge but most of all they are DOING something with their hands.

In this class the teacher is the minor player. My key roll is to keep the lab safe and to be a resource for students who need help. Most of what goes on is directed by the students. My roll as teacher is one of a coach being there to challenge students with material that will build their skills and knowledge. I present challenges and outline resources but students must put their knowledge to work in solving problems assigned to them. The final output is a notebook which represents all that a student has done in class.  The projects on this second quarter of the class are designed to move away from focus on the technical skills and move more into putting these skills to work on material that is common for a commercial photographer.  The magazine cut outs are part of this as students look for professional examples of the same material they are working on.
