Storybook Project - Photojournalism
This book must be 10 to 12 photographs and it must tell a story. Like a National Geographic story or a magazine story this must contain pictures and written material as well as captions. It can be about a person, place or a thing.
Examples: This is my neighborhood, This is SCHS, A day in the life of a SCHS student, My dream car, Santa Cruz Wharf, Behind the scenes of my job, This is the ins and outs of my band,
OR
You may do your storybook on ìHow to do . . . .î This would be a story that tells how to put something together or perhaps how to play a game. This book will use pictures and text to explain how to do something so that someone else could follow your instructions and repeat the project. Perhaps do it on how to process film or how to make pictures or how to play a game.
Photo quality as well as editorial content is important. Your presentation of this material in your book is a major part of the grade. Think about your layout on the pages.
Type and layout should be done on the computer (by hand only if you have very artistic writing and it ads to the quality of the display). If you would like you may get extra points for this project by scanning your photographs and placing them into a document prepared in class on the computer. If you do a scanned version you may skip the outline and proof sheet points on the grade sheet or you may request 60 points for the project instead of 50.
This is a major project that is intended to take a full 6 days of work to complete properly....this is 9 hours of your time. Plan your work in advance and do not wait until it is close to the end of the term to complete your work. Start NOW.
Project Time Line and grade criteria
Due the 6th week of term - outline of project telling what you will write about and what pictures you will need to take, when you will take them and how. You may change your topic after submission of your outline, but it is wise to check with instructor first to see if the new plan has any potential problems.
Due the 7th or 8th week of term - proof sheet of your negatives - you should start making prints during the 8th week to allow time for the assembly and computer work.
Due the 9th week of term - final presentation The final presentation is a BOOK and is not just put into you notebook like other projects.
