Studio Portrait

studlightset.jpgUsing the studio lighting produce a formal portrait of head and shoulders style.  This will require you to use two studio stobe lights with reflectors.  In a normal studio there are three lights. Because of the strong light from our class windows and sky light we only use two lights.

TECHNICAL CLUES:

Shutter must be at 1/60 to synchronize with the stobe.  The aperture is set by the distance the flash is from the object....the flash meter can be used or use the chart on the wall. For most photographs a shutter of 60 and an aperture of f11 will work nicely.

One strobe should be set at a 45 degree angle from the subject and one should be almost directly to the side of the camera.  Have the subject look between the two stobes.

This is supposed to be a FORMAL portrait, you will have a studio background and will use lights to get the effect you want. You MAY use a prop like this photographer did. A formal shot is Head and Shoulders area only and is used for advertisements or for gifts. It is the type of shot you would go to the senior photographer to get.
